Turkish jets destroy 6 Daesh command posts, 99 terrorist targets in Syria

The Turkish military hit more than 100 Daesh targets in northern Syria on Friday as part of the ongoing Operation Euphrates Shield, according to a military source.

In a statement, the Turkish General Staff said 99 Daesh targets in such areas as Tal Atiyah and Uwayshiyyah had been hit with 291 rounds of Fırtına (storm) howitzer fire and 23 rounds of multiple rocket launchers.

Turkish airstrikes also destroyed Daesh elements at six buildings being used by the terrorist group as a command post and weapons dump in Tal Atiyah, Uwayshiyyah and Cubban cities.

A total of 1,568 detected targets have been hit since the beginning of Operation Euphrates Shield, the military added.

Also, three Daesh terrorists were killed in airstrikes carried out by the U.S.-led coalition forces, which destroyed three buildings and a store, the statement said.

The statement added that Turkish Armed Forces had taken all measures to protect civilians in the regions.

Turkey has said Operation Euphrates Shield is aimed at bolstering border security, supporting coalition forces, and eliminating the threat posed by terror organizations, especially Daesh.

The operation is in line with the country's right to self-defense borne out of international treaties and a mandate given to Turkey's armed forces by its parliament in 2014, which was extended for another year in September 2015.
