FSA can help fight Daish: Defense minister

Contrary to what the United States thinks, the Free Syrian Army (FSA) is a factor in the fight against Daish, and Turkey will never let the PKK and Democratic Union Party (PYD) terrorist groups carve out territory in Syria, said Defense Minister Fikri Işık on Thursday.

"Unfortunately, the U.S. claimed that there is no actor besides the PYD in the fight against Daish, but we saw in Operation Euphrates Shield that the Free Syrian Army can also defend its land and rid the region of Daish when it gets the necessary support," Isik said in the southern province of Kilis, visiting Turkish troops stationed near the Syrian border.

"We say to the U.S., to our allies, at every opportunity that Turkey will never let the PYD change the demographic makeup of Syria," he added. "The U.S. needs to be careful and aware in that sense. We will never let the PKK/PYD build a territorial area here [Syria]."

12 villages captured from Daish in Mare

The Free Syrian Army (FSA), backed by the Turkish military, recently seized control in 12 villages in the Mare region of northern Syria, Colonel John Dorian, a spokesman for the anti-Daish alliance said.

Speaking to journalists in Washington from Baghdad, Dorian said that Turkey supports the FSA on the ground and the coalition provides assistance with airstrikes. He said that the Turkey-backed FSA made advances recently by taking control of 12 villages in the Mare region.

Stressing that Turkey continues to clear Daish in northern Syria, Dorian said that the U.S. supports the Turkish military's cross-border operation.
