Operation Euphrates Shield update: 56th day, Operation against Daesh terrorists intensifies in Azez district
A total of 20 Daesh terrorists were killed in 11 airstrikes carried out by U.S.-led coalition forces in northern Syria on Tuesday, according to a Turkish military source.
In an emailed statement to Anadolu Agency, the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media, said the airstrikes targeted 88 Daesh positions in areas east of the Azaz district of Aleppo, including the al-Jabriyah, al-Burhan, Vash and al-Ghuz neighborhoods.
Azaz is located in Aleppo's northern countryside, just 6 kilometers (4 miles) from the Turkish border.
Turkish warplanes also participated in the airstrikes in the areas of al Mazraat, al-Uyun, Ghuz, Shudud and Haci Kusah, destroying Daesh's two defensive positions, as well as the command center and arsenal, the source added.
In the last 24 hours, two opposition fighters were also killed and two others wounded in the clashes, while 150 neighborhoods were cleared of Daesh so far. No causalities reported from the Turkish army side, it added.
Tuesday marked the 56th day of Operation Euphrates Shield, which began on Aug. 24 and is aimed at bolstering border security, supporting coalition forces, and eliminating the threat posed by terror organizations, especially Daesh.

The Free Syrian Army (FSA) has seized more than 1,200 square kilometers from the Daesh terrorist group in northern Syria as part of Turkey's Euphrates Shield Operation.
Within the context of the offensive, Daesh militants have been removed from nine towns and villages in northern Syria, including the towns of Dabiq and Sawran that are now under FSA control.
Now a line between the towns of Maree and Jarabulus has been connected, putting an end to threats posed by Daesh and PYD terrorist groups.
Dabiq, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) northeast of Aleppo and around 10 kilometers (6 miles) south of Syria's border with Turkey, has a symbolic importance for Daesh as the group believes it will be the site of an end-times battle with non-Muslims. Dabiq is also the name of one of Daesh's online magazines.
The FSA has also advanced 24 kilometers south of Jarabulus and 20 kilometers south of Azaz-Marea and held positions some 20 kilometers far from the town of Al-Bab.
The new gains make it harder for PYD to protect its controlled areas in northeastern Syria (near the Iraq border) and in northwestern areas (near Turkey).
The PYD failure to capture Al-Bab will mean that it will not be able to connect Manbij city on the west bank of Euphrates River with Afrin city near the Turkish border.
