Appointment of prosecutor investigated for FETÖ links to Cumhuriyet daily case 'unfortunate,' says justice minister

Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ said yesterday that it was "unfortunate" a prosecutor who is being questioned under a Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ)-linked investigation to be appointed to the investigation launched into Cumhuriyet daily."I wish this appointment hadn't been done," Bozdağ said, adding that another prosecutor could have been appointed. "We do not have the authority to change the prosecutor. There is no ill intention here. If there was a belief that he was a FETÖ member, the Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK) would have done the necessary thing," he added. On Monday, a statement by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office said that an investigation was launched into the executives of Cumhuriyet on Aug. 18 for committing crimes on behalf of FETÖ and the PKK terror organization. The statement added that irregularities in board member election to the Cumhuriyet Foundation on April 2, 2013 and articles legitimizing a coup attempt prior to FETÖ's July 15 coup attempt were among the charges.
