Fugitive Cumhuriyet's executive detained at Istanbul airport


Istanbul police have detained the chief executive of the Turkish daily Cumhuriyet, Akın Atalay, at Istanbul Atatürk Airport on Friday after arriving from Berlin.An Istanbul court had issued an arrest warrant for Atalay last week, but police were not able find him at his home and he was said to be abroad. In last month, a statement by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office said that an investigation was launched into the executives of Cumhuriyet on Aug. 18 for committing crimes on behalf of the Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ) and PKK terror groups.The statement added that allegations on irregularities in the board member election to the Cumhuriyet Foundation on April 2, 2013 are also being investigated.
