2 PKK terrorists planning to carry out attacks killed in anti-terror op in Van

Two terrorists were killed in a police operation in the eastern province of Van early yesterday, according to police sources.

Anti-terrorism and special forces units of the Van Provincial Police Department raided a house in the Edremit district where two PKK members were reportedly preparing a terrorist attack, said the police source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media.

Two PKK terrorists opened fire on the security forces when the police called on them to surrender, the source added.

Recently, the PKK launched a bombing attack in the southeastern Diyarbakır province. An explosive device planted on the wall of a cemetery near the Dicle University campus exploded as a bus carrying policemen was passing by around 4:30 p.m.

Ambulances were dispatched to the scene where a thick column of smoke towered above. DHA has reported that the death toll later rose to three, but reports were not yet confirmed at the time Daily Sabah went to print.

The PKK - listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and EU - resumed its armed campaign in July 2015 and since then has been responsible for the deaths of around 1,100 security personnel and civilians, including women and children.
