30 Daesh terrorists killed in military ops carried out in northern Syria

Turkish airstrikes and shelling have killed 30 Daesh terrorists, and destroyed four vehicles used by the terror group as part of the operation to liberate the northern Syrian town of al-Bab from terrorists, the military said on Tuesday.

The military provided up-to-date information on the military developments that took place between Jan. 30, 7 a.m. (GMT 4 a.m.) to Jan. 31, 7 a.m. local time.

A total of 207 identified targets were shelled by the Turkish military, while Turkish warplanes hit 24 Daesh targets destroying 20 buildings used as shelters, four hangars used to hide car bombs, one anti-aircraft gun position, one mortar position.

Coalition Air Forces also conducted an airstrike on Daesh targets in the areas in al-Bab, destroying one tunnel used by Daesh terrorists.

Some 43 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were destroyed by explosive ordinance teams over the span of 24 hours, adding up to a total of 3,550 since the beginning of the operation, while 55 mines were detonated.

The Turkish military continues to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of civilians in the area, the statement added.

The Turkish army is supporting FSA fighters in liberating al-Bab, a strategic city for Daesh, from the terrorist group. Tuesday marks the 161st day since the city was surrounded in order to liberate it.

Turkey launched Operation Euphrates Shield On Aug. 24, 2016 declaring that is was exercising its rights of self-defense codified under the U.N. Charter Article 51.

A National Security Council press release (Nov. 30, 2016) stated that the operation's objectives were to maintain border security and confront Daesh terrorism within the framework of the U.N. Charter. It also emphasized not allowing the PKK terrorist organization along with its affiliates, the Democratic Union Party (PYD) and People's Protection Units (YPG), to establish a corridor of terror on Turkey's doorstep.
