A total of 34 PKK terrorists have been killed in northern Iraq in airstrikes carried out by Turkish jets, the military announced on Monday in a press release.

The statement said that airstrikes were conducted early on Monday, following the receipt of intelligence providing information regarding the location of terrorists.

A group of terrorists were subsequently hit by Turkish jets at the entrance of a cave situated in the Zap region of northern Iraq.

According to initial estimates, a total of 11 terrorists were killed in bombardments.

A second statement released on Monday said that, in a second wave of airstrikes that took place in northern Iraq's Zap region later during the day, 23 more PKK terrorists were killed in an abandoned area. The group of terrorists was supposedly undertaking preparations to organize an attack.

The release also noted that the jets returned to their airbase without any damage after conducting the airstrikes.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU.

The terrorist group resumed its decades-old armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.

Since then, the PKK has murdered over 800 security personnel and 300 civilians and has also lost some 10,000 militants, who were either killed or apprehended in anti-terror operations.
