Security forces thwart over 150 major terror attacks in last 6 months


Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu said on Sunday that 11,783 security operations were conducted against the PKK terrorist organization and 153 serious incidents have been prevented while 22 bomb vehicles were seized in the last six months.

According to the information received from the interior minister, 800 shelters belonging to the PKK were eradicated, while four suicide bombers and 21 suspected terrorists who are suspected of plotting terrorist attacks were arrested in the last six months. Minister Soylu said, "Operations in Diyarbakır, Mardin, Ömeryan and Amanos [in southeast Anatolia], a region that has become ground zero in the PKK's terror campaign, are still ongoing."

Minister Soylu also noted that nearly 8 million vehicles were seized and legal action was taken against 92,519 of them in 2017 due to security concerns.

Regarding the operation conducted in the eastern province of Bingöl where PKK fighting has intensified, Minister Soylu indicated that Turkish military forces successfully maintain the operations against terrorists even though they are under challenging weather conditions.

Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry announced that the special operations department of the Turkish security forces has conducted 230 operations and detained 990 people for affiliations with the PKK.

Furthermore, 70 people affiliated with Daesh and 28 members of the Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ) were also arrested. In addition, 28 leftist terror group members were also detained, according to information from the Interior Ministry.

During the countrywide operations, security forces defused 24 terrorists, killing 13 in the clashes while 11 of them surrendered.
