Around 300 kilograms of explosives planted by PKK terrorists in Turkey's southeastern Hakkari province were destroyed on Friday by security forces.

According to a statement by the Turkish military, 300 kilograms of explosives were found buried in a road and destroyed at the scene. During the operation, security officials also seized a vehicle that was planned to be used during a terror attack.

PKK terrorists usually use hundreds of meters-long cables to set off explosives from a distance as they are especially planted on routes frequently used by Turkish security forces.

A Turkish explosives expert at Istanbul's Okan University, Professor Ali Kahrıman, said that a 100-kilogram explosive could demolish a 10-storey building.

"One-hundred-and-forty tons of explosives can harm a one square kilometer accommodation zone", Kahrıman said, adding: "The explosives could demolish almost 1,500 five or ten-story buildings in an instant."

Since it resumed its armed campaign in July 2015, the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and EU -- has been responsible for the deaths of approximately 1,200 security personnel and civilians, including women and children.
