Turkish Armed Forces jets hit 16 PKK targets in northern Iraq and in the southeastern Hakkari province of Turkey on Friday, according to the military.

Military sources said that an aerial operation in the area was carried out between 02:56 p.m. and 19:54 p.m. local time in the Avashin-Basyan, Metina, Zap and Qandil Mountains region of Iraq, adding that the 16 targets were destroyed completely and the jets returned to their bases in safety.

Separately, three PKK terrorists were killed during ongoing air operations in northern Iraq Friday in an operation in northern Iraq's Zap area.

The Turkish General Staff also said two shelters and a weapons pit were also destroyed.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and EU -- resumed its armed campaign in July 2015 and since then has been responsible for the deaths of around 1,100 security personnel and civilians, including women and children.
