One Turkish soldier killed in clashes in southeastern Hakkari province

One Turkish soldier was killed in clashes during ongoing operations against the PKK terror group in the region of İkiyaka Mountains near the Yüksekova district of Turkey's southeastern Hakkari province on Monday.

The soldier was shot by terrorists while unloading equipment from a helicopter at Düztepe position and he was immediately brought to the Hakkari State Hospital for medical treatment, where he succumbed to his wounds.

The Hakkari governorship previously stated that a total of 22 PKK terrorists were killed thus far during the ongoing operation, which was launched on March 25.

Founded in 1978, the PKK has waged a decades long bloody campaign against the Turkish government.

The PKK, which is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and the EU, resumed its armed campaign in July 2015 after a brief reconciliation period.

Since then, the PKK has been responsible for the deaths of some 1,200 security personnel and civilians, including women and children, while more than 4,000 security personnel and over 2,000 civilians have been injured.
