Over 590 PKK, Daesh terrorist suspects detained across Turkey

Over 590 terrorist suspects from the PKK and Daesh terrorist groups have been detained by Turkish security forces as part of nation-wide anti-terror operations over the last week, the interior ministry said on Monday.

According to a statement by the ministry, the Turkish military, gendermarie and police units carried out a total of 331 counter-terrorism operations, and detained 551 suspects with links to the PKK terrorist organization.

A total of 46 PKK terrorists were killed in the operations over the past week, while 10 others were captured.

Improvised explosives, mines, weapons, rocket launchers and others were confiscated in seven provinces, including Mardin, Batman, Bingöl, Diyarbakır, Şırnak, Tunceli and Bitlis, the statement added.

The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by the U.S., EU and Turkey, claims to fight for Kurdish self-rule in southeastern Turkey, has killed thousands of civilians in more than three decades of terror attacks. More than 4,000 security personnel and over 2,000 civilians have also been injured by the terrorist group.

Meanwhile, 42 Daesh-linked foreigners were detained as part of the operation against the terrorist group.In February, Turkey launched what may be the biggest nationwide operations against the terrorist group, which is behind a string of attacks in Turkey .

Since Daesh has emerged as a terrorist group in war-torn Syria, Turkey has detained over 5,000 Daesh suspects and deported over 3,290 foreign terrorist fighters from 95 countries and refused more than 38,269 individuals' entry to Turkey.
