Security forces deal heavy blow to PKK in last week's ops


At least 46 members of the outlawed terrorist group PKK were killed in the past week in ongoing nationwide anti-terrorism operations, an official statement claimed yesterday.

The Interior Ministry's statement said, security forces, between March 20 and 27, conducted a total of 311 operations, against the PKK terrorist organization.

The statement added that 10 suspected PKK terrorists were apprehended while one surrendered.

Dozens of suspects were also detained on charges of entertaining relations with terrorist organizations -- 42 allegedly with Daesh, 1,210 with the Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ), and 11 others with leftist terrorist groups.

Meanwhile, 57 shelters and caves used by terrorists were destroyed in the southeastern and eastern provinces of Batman, Bingöl, Bitlis, Diyarbakır, Mardin, Şırnak and Tunceli. In addition, security forces seized 52 weapons, including 42 heavy and long-barrel firearms as well as 24 grenades and four tons of explosives. While 551 suspects were arrested for aiding and abetting terrorist groups.

Law enforcers also seized more than three tons of hashish and over 5 million pills in 544 operations against drug trafficking. They also confiscated over 925,000 packs of smuggled cigarettes and 124,500 liters of fuel.
