Kılıçdaroğlu's claims in line with FETÖ propaganda: Justice minister
Claims made by main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, as he called the July 15 failed Gülenist coup attempt, a ‘controlled coup," has drawn further criticism from the government.
Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ yesterday slammed Kılıçdaroğlu's remarks, saying that the CHP chairman's claims were in line with the lies perpetrated by FETÖ. He also called on Kılıçdaroğlu to provide proofs to back his claims.
"Controlled coup is a claim FETÖ makes. When the CHP Chairman uses the same term, he is legitimizing the claim. This is the apologist of FETÖ's propaganda in Turkey," said Bozdağ at an event in Istanbul's Sancaktepe district yesterday.
The minister said such claims have been made by members of FETÖ ever since the coup attempt that claimed the lives of 249 people, and injured more than 2200.
During the coup attempt, besides bombings of the Parliament building in Ankara, an assassination attempt was also carried out against President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Turkey's Marmaris, where the president was on a vacation.
"It was CHP and its administrators that were defending FETÖ during the Dec. 17-25 judicial coup attempt. Now we see that they are using the same rhetoric about the [July 15] coup attempt," the justice minister said, adding that these claims were disrespectful to those who lost their lives in the incident.
"If he is honest and sincere, then let him give documents and information to the public prosecutors. There are TV's out there hearing him, he should give it to them, go on air and explain," said Bozdağ as he called on the CHP chairman to prove his claims.
Kılıçdaroğlu speaking to the media in Istanbul early on Monday said that the July 15 coup attempt was a "controlled coup attempt," questioning why the pro-coup forces went ahead with the attempt, despite being exposed.
Kılıçdaroğlu's claim has also drawn criticism from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Binali Yıldırım, as well as the public, who took to social media to condemn the remarks.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan speaking in Turkey's Zonguldak on Tuesday, called on Kılıçdaroğlu to prove the claims.
"If you have any files go ahead and expose them. Don't leave them for until after the 16th, you will be ashamed. You always say you have files, but whatever you have said until now are nothing but unfounded facts."
