PKK terrorists kill 2 soldiers in southeast Turkey

Two soldiers succumbed to their wounds at a state hospital in southeastern Şırnak province on Sunday, according to a security source.

The soldiers had been injured during a counter-terrorism operation against the PKK terror group in Şırnak early Sunday, the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to media, said.

The incident occurred when an operation led by the gendarmerie command was taking place in Şırnak's Bestler-Dereler region in Uludere district, the source added.

Counter-terrorism operations against the PKK terrorist organization remain ongoing in the area.

More than 1,200 people, including security force personnel and civilians, have lost their lives since the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its decades-old armed campaign in July 2015.
