A PKK terrorist planning a suicide attack on a police security checkpoint in Turkey's eastern Tunceli province was killed by security forces, reports said Wednesday.

The incident reportedly took place at a checkpoint located on Ovacık road when police instructed the terrorist driving a stolen car to stop, but the latter refused to do so.

The terrorist then opened fire on security forces and was killed during clashes, reports said.

Tunceli-Ovacık road was closed to traffic following the incident.

The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by the U.S., EU and Turkey, claims to fight for Kurdish self-rule in southeastern Turkey, and has killed thousands of civilians in more than three decades of terror attacks. More than 4,000 security personnel and over 2,000 civilians have also been injured by the terrorist group.

Turkey has intensified anti-terror operations at home and also targets terrorist hideouts in cross-border operations in northern Iraq and Syria.
