The Burundi administration has cancelled permission for FETÖ-linked schools in Burundi and transferred the schools to the Turkish Maarif (Education) Foundation.

Maarif Foundation President Hasan Yavuz said the Foreign Ministry of Burundi cancelled permission for FETÖ-linked schools in the country and gave them a diplomatic note suggesting the transfer of these institutions to the Maarif Foundation.

Stating that they conveyed the special letter and message of President Erdoğan to Burundi President Pierre Nkurunziza, Yavuz indicated that they would assign a country coordinator to Burundi next week. With the addition of Burundi, 16 African countries, including Senegal, Mauritania, Chad, Gabon, Burkina Faso, Sao Tome, Guinea, Niger, Madagascar, Sudan, Djibouti, Rwanda and Somalia, have signed agreements regarding the handover of FETO-linked schools. Negotiations with other African countries continue.

Turkey has asked several countries worldwide to shut down dozens of schools, colleges and businesses linked to the FETÖ network in the wake of the July 15 coup attempt.

The Maarif Foundation aims to be active around the world within five years and create educational mechanisms that represent a Turkish vision and promote the Turkish language.
