8 PKK terrorists killed during anti-terror operation in eastern Turkey

Eight PKK terrorists were killed during an anti-terror operation in the eastern Kars province on Sunday, the governor of the province said.

The Gendarmerie Command Units of the city launched an air-supported anti-terror operation in Kağızman district, Kars Governor Rahmi Doğan said.

He noted that the operation was conducted after detecting the terrorist positions with surveillance drones.

"Eight terrorists were killed and the security forces are searching for another terrorist who is on the run," Doğan added.

In operations conducted since 2016, a total of 35 PKK terrorists have been killed by the security forces in Kars province, according to the Governor's office.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and EU, and has resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015.

Since then, it has been responsible for the deaths of around 1,200 people, including women and children.
