At least 7 terrorists were killed in airstrikes carried out against the PKK terror group in northern Iraq, the Turkish General Staff said Thursday.

The military statement said the counter-terrorism air raid hit terror targets in the Zap and Avasin-Basyan regions after determining that a group of PKK terrorists was preparing to launch an attack on a Turkish military border post.

Four hideouts used by the terrorists and three weapon pits were also destroyed in the airstrikes, the statement read.

The air force has been conducting regular airstrikes on PKK facilities in both northern Iraq and Turkey since July 2015, when the terror group resumed its decades-old armed campaign.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU.

Founded in 1978, the terrorist group resumed its decades-long armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.
