The locals in northwestern Syria's Azaz, many of who fled Afrin under the PKK-affiliated People's Protection Units (YPG), said they were waiting for the town to be liberated from the terrorist group in a possible operation backed by Turkey.

Talking to the Turkish language daily, Sabah, residents of Azaz said they were waiting impatiently for Afrin to be cleaned off YPG presence and added that would support any Turkey-backed offensive.

Abdulkadir Jamal, a lawyer by profession, said the YPG is a threat to both Syria and Turkey.

"The YPG/PKK terrorists who invaded Afrin all came from the Qandil Mountains [PKK command and control in northern Iraq]. They took over 42 Arab and Turkmen villages," he claimed.

Jamal added that thousands of people were forced to flee and that the YPG has changed the names of the villages they invaded.

"No matter what, we do not want a Kurdish state here."

Bashir Azazi, a shopkeeper, said, "I hope operation on Afrin starts immediately and the YPG/PKK terrorists get kicked out of Afrin."

Adding that people of Azaz support the Turkish army, Azazi also praised the people of Turkey for always being by their side.

Nihat Alush, another resident in Azaz, said the YPG has taken away their properties in Afrin.

"The YPG/PKK torture the people there [Afrin]. They do not allow people to enter their properties. Of course, I want these terrorists to be kicked out," Alush added.
