A total of 63 PKK terrorists were killed in counterterror operations carried out in southeastern Turkey between September 21 and 27, the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) said Friday in a written statement.

Numerous weapons and thousands of pieces of ammunition were seized during the counter-terrorism operations, while 54 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were destroyed by explosive ordnance teams, the statement elaborated.

A total of 87 shelters, caves, weapon pits and depots used by the terrorist organization were also destroyed, the statement added.

During clashes between the PKK terrorists and Turkish security forces, four soldiers were killed and 27 others were injured. The injured soldiers were brought to nearby hospitals for medical treatment, the statement said.

Meanwhile, a Turkish soldier was killed and four others were injured Friday in counterterror operations conducted in northern Iraq's Kanimasi region, during which three PKK terrorists were also killed.

In another anti-terror operation in the Doğubeyazıt district of the eastern Ağrı province, a village guard was killed and two others were wounded Friday, in clashes between terrorists and soldiers.

Four PKK terrorists were also killed in the operations, sources reported.

Founded in 1978, the PKK has waged a bloody decades-long campaign against Turkey.

The PKK, which is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU, resumed its armed campaign in July 2015 after a brief reconciliation period.

Since that time, the PKK has been responsible for the death of 1,200 security personnel and civilians, including women and children, and has injured more than 4,000 security personnel and over 2,000 civilians.
