PKK kills construction worker in rocket attack

A civilian construction worker was killed Wednesday in a PKK rocket attack in the southeast, a security official said.

Terrorists fired a guided rocket from across the border in Iraq at a bulldozer working in Hakkari province's Şemdinli district, the official said on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

One worker was killed and another injured. The PKK has increased targeting civilians, including teachers, politicians, and road workers in several attacks in the past couple of years.

A counterterrorism operation was launched to track down the attackers, the official added.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization in Turkey, the U.S. and EU. More than 40,000 people have been killed in the PKK's bloody, 33-year campaign against the Turkish state.
