Police detained a senior Daesh suspect allegedly recruiting terrorists in Turkey's central Kırşehir province in anti-terror operations carried out on Monday.

Turkish police, as part of judicial investigation, raided six properties in the city center of Kırşehir, that were allegedly being used by the Daesh terrorist organization.

The suspect, named Y.K., was spotted near the properties during the police search.

Police said the suspect had been in contact with high-ranking Daesh militant Halis Bayancuk, also known by his codename Abu Hanzala, who was arrested in Istanbul early this year.

Bayancuk was accused of being a Daesh member and attempting to abolish constitutional order in Turkey.

Since Daesh has emerged as a terrorist group in war-torn Syria, Turkey has detained over 5,000 Daesh suspects and deported over 3,290 foreign terrorist fighters from 95 countries and refused more than 38,269 individuals' entry to Turkey.

According to Turkey's Justice Ministry, at least 780 people, including 350 foreigners, remain in detention — some of whom have been convicted — for suspected links to the Daesh terrorist group.
