Two soldiers were killed and another injured Tuesday after a handmade explosive device planted by terrorists detonated in Turkey's southeastern Hakkari province, the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) said.

TSK said the device had been planted by a member of the PKK terrorist group in the Kanireş district near the Çam Tepe military base.

The casualties were also announced by Hakkari Governor Cüneyit Orhan Toprak.

TSK offered condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers.

One victim of the attack was 26-year-old Cumali Gür, a contracted soldier serving near the border with Iraq.

Hakkari province is on Turkey's southern border with Iraq.
