Senior PKK terrorist Behçet Arvas, who was behind the attack on opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's convoy in Turkey's Artvin in 2016, has been killed in anti-terror ops in eastern Kars province, the interior ministry said in a statement Monday.

The terrorist was killed in an anti-terror operation carried out in Kağızman district on May 22, 2018, the statement said, adding that other terrorists were also killed in the operation.

In 2016, Kılıçdaroğlu's convoy was stuck in an armed clash between PKK terrorists and soldiers escorting the convoy in the northeastern province of Artvin.

Meanwhile, three high-ranking PKK terrorists who were on the Interior Ministry's wanted list were also killed during counterterrorism operations across Turkey over the past week, the ministry's statement also said.

The statement added that the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) carried out 1,483 counterterrorism operations on May 21-28 with the assistance of land and air forces, during which 21 of the terrorists were killed, six others were captured, and 15 surrendered to authorities.

During the operations, 140 people were arrested for allegedly aiding and abetting the PKK terrorist group and 33 others for their suspected links to the Daesh terrorist group. Listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and the EU, the PKK has been responsible for the death of some 40,000 people since the mid-1980s.
