Nedim Şener is a renowned secular journalist known for his ultra-Kemalist identity. Şener became even more popular after writing about the Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ)-affiliated police chiefs involved in the assassination of journalist Hrant Dink. He was accused of being a member of the alleged clandestine Ergenekon organization by FETÖ-linked police officers and was detained by FETÖ-linked prosecutors in March 2011. After serving more than a year in prison, Şener has turned out to be one of the leading names in Turkey's current fight against FETÖ.

In an article he penned recently, Şener expressed how the Judges and Prosecutors Association (YARSAV), which used to be known as a representative of Kemalist elites, was actually built by FETÖ and how he was personally deceived by them.

"The indictment issued on YARSAV President Murat Arslan reads, 'Founded by members of the judiciary, YARSAV was observed to have adopted a left-wing discourse during 2010. Murat Arslan, who was then the secretary-general [of YARSAV], has been revealed to be involved in FETÖ at the time although the YARSAV members, other than the ones affiliated with the FETÖ/PDY terror group within the association, were not informed about it until July 16, 2016. With a direct order from FETÖ leader Fetullah Gülen, FETÖ operatives infiltrated YARSAV from 2008,'" he wrote.

"Prosecutor Mehmet Tamöz, who filed the indictment, described the FETÖ operatives within YARSAV as 'human by day, wolf by night.' What surprised me the most was this: Arslan, who was known as a leftist, social democratic and a Kemalist jurist for years, was as a matter of fact a secretive FETÖ affiliate," he continued.

"I would like to give a similar example from my personal experience. YARSAV was one of the leading organizations that supported me when I was detained in 2011 as I wrote about the role of FETÖ in the assassination of Hrant Dink. When I got out of prison in 2012, YARSAV President Murat Arslan asked me to join him in a meeting. Upon his invitation, I went to a restaurant in Istanbul's Cihangir neigborhood for the first and only time in my life. Arslan and his team talked a lot about justice and law during our meeting. I left after a brief conversation, and we have not contacted each other ever since," he added.

"Last year, I was very surprised when I heard that Arslan was detained. I got over this shock a long time ago but I still get cramps in my stomach when I read the indictment since it revealed that FETÖ jailed people with conspiracies and established contacts with their victims through conversations on law and justice. I am sure I was not the only one subjected to that; there must be many others who experienced the same deception. It is true that no one in the world but FETÖ can behave so viciously," he concluded in his article.
