How to cope with forgetfulness
If you are suffering from a lapse of memory, focus on what you must not forget in your spare time until it is imprinted in your memory.

If you are suffering from poor memory, the nightmare of the new age, be calm and take notes, prepare lists and check them out

One of the most important problems today age is forgetfulness. Intense work pressure, traffic for those who live in metropolises and similar sources of stress can make you distracted and forget things. Sure, most of us forget the names of people that we see regularly and what we would do within seconds when we leave a room. Situations that make you question yourself and make your life difficult refer not to dementia but to your brain being preoccupied with other things. That is, your body is programmed to do something, but your mind is dealing with a totally different thing. Thus, you become distracted, making it harder to remember why you opened the refrigerator. If your mind is engaged with other thing when you try to do something, it cannot register data, and unregistered data cannot be found easily.

A sharp mind in old age

The human mind can be protected until the age of 100. If there is no neurological problem, a healthy person will not have a memory problem even if he or she is 100. That is, forgetting is not a part of aging. Actually, there are some steps to keep the memory alive. Research in which memory-supporting techniques were evaluated was conducted in the U.S. Memory problems of nearly 18,000 people who eat healthy and exercise were evaluated. They were asked to practice memory-supporting techniques. Magnetic resonance imaging and positron-emission tomography images of volunteers who followed the advice and practiced it for a week were done. When the images were examined, changes in neurons and a decrease in memory problems were observed.

Focus and frame technique

Most of you realize that you do not remember the name of a person you meet a second time, causing difficulties. Experts recommend practicing focus and framing techniques for 60 seconds in order to not forget the name of someone who you just met. Focusing means you need to focus on the face of this person, moving away from all effects that distract you. Framing recommends creating a creative simile to remind you of this person. For example, if you meet someone named Bahar (meaning spring in Turkish), think of a flower or an object that will remind you of spring and link it to the name. Scientists say that the hippocampus collaborates with the frontal lobe and helps to transfer data to long-term memory thanks to this technique.

Struggle

To do your routines regularly and not feel embarrassed by things such as forgetting a name, do things to prevent this. Be calm, focus on what you must not forget in your spare time until it is imprinted on your memory. Research indicates if left-handed people use their right hand and the right-handed use their left, it will support their memories.

Linking things

It is on the tip of my tongue, but what was it? Do you ask this question often but can't remember no matter how hard you try? Our memories, which are what we have lived, live side by side like neighbors in a neighborhood in our mind. While trying to remember a word, try to go back to the moment you heard it and focus on what happened there.

Specific places

Research reveals that we spend nearly 10 minutes looking for things we carry with us every day, such as our keys, glasses, wallet, bag and mobile phone. Wait a second before going out, and ask yourself whether you have taken necessary things. Actually, this is the second step. The first one is to be neat. Necessities should have specific places in your home, car and even office. Thus, you will look for them less and always find them.

Making up stories

Expecting a busy day? Make a long list. Which things will you forget? If you create a list with the right technique, you will not forget anything. Make up a story immediately, but it should not be long. Let's say that there are no eggs left, you have documents to post, you need a stamp, and you should bring your trousers to the dry cleaner. Imagine you are taking a big egg on which there is a stamp. Alas, you dropped it, staining your trousers, and this stain can only be cleaned by a dry cleaner. It seems odd, of course. However, you can be sure that you will never forget anything with such a story.

Test yourself

Pay attention to what your colleague, teacher or child wears during the day. Write the details (color, pattern or fabric and so forth) on a small piece of paper. Back home (especially late at night), try to remember their clothes. Compare your answers with your notes. If practiced regularly, this technique will help you remember.

Entertaining games

Sudoku and word games keep memory alive. Play memory-supporting games; download them to your smartphone. Research indicates these games can increase your concentration.
