One of Türkiye’s most renowned culinary names, "Kebapçı Iskender," has brought its historic family tradition to London, opening its doors in the prestigious Knightsbridge district.
The restaurant, located on Beauchamp Place just a short walk from Harrods, marks a major new chapter in the story of Iskender kebab, a tradition that dates back to 1867 in Bursa and has been passed down through generations of the Iskenderoğlu family.
The London restaurant is being led by Yavuz Iskenderoğlu and his sons, Oğuzhan Iskenderoğlu and Kayhan Iskenderoğlu, continuing a family legacy that has made Iskender kebab synonymous with Bursa’s culinary identity.
Following the family’s restaurants in Bursa and Istanbul, the Knightsbridge opening represents a significant step in taking the brand and its heritage to an international audience.
19th-century tradition
Spread across three floors, the new restaurant brings the Iskenderoğlu family’s long-standing culinary heritage to one of London’s most internationally recognised dining destinations.
At the center of the menu is the dish that made the family name famous: traditional Iskender kebab.
Thinly sliced lamb döner is served over pieces of pide bread, topped with tomato sauce and finished with sizzling butter. It is accompanied by traditional yoghurt and other classic elements of the dish.
For the Iskenderoğlu family, the dish represents far more than a recipe. It is a culinary tradition that has been carefully preserved and passed down for more than a century and a half.
Bringing Bursa’s flavors to Knightsbridge
The London restaurant also aims to introduce guests to a wider selection of traditional Bursa flavors, offering diners an opportunity to experience Turkish regional cuisine beyond its most internationally familiar dishes.
Among the desserts is Kemalpaşa, one of Bursa’s best-known traditional sweets, traditionally served with kaymak.
The opening therefore represents not simply the arrival of another Turkish restaurant in London, but the international continuation of a family story that began in Bursa in the 19th century.
From Bursa to London
For the Iskenderoğlu family, establishing a presence in Knightsbridge is a milestone in the international journey of a culinary heritage that has survived generations.
For Bursa, it is another chapter in the global story of one of the city’s most iconic dishes.
And for London, it brings a piece of Bursa’s gastronomic heritage to one of the capital’s most prestigious neighborhoods.
What began in Bursa in 1867 is now continuing in Knightsbridge – with Iskender kebab bringing more than 150 years of Turkish culinary heritage to London.
