Turkish officials have slammed Israel's attacks on Syria for endangering regional peace and violating international law and Syria's territorial integrity

The Turkish Parliament late Wednesday approved a motion by the speaker condemning Israel’s strikes in Syria, denouncing them as a threat to regional peace and stability.

"We strongly condemn Israel’s vile attacks on Syria, particularly targeting Damascus. We reiterate our support for the Syrian people," the assembly’s resolution said.

Israel launched Wednesday airstrikes on Damascus, targeting the Defense Ministry and areas near the presidential palace.

The strikes came as Israel resumed attacks in the southern Suwayda province, warning it will continue unless Syrian forces withdraw.

The Syrian army had deployed troops to the area to restore order after clashes between armed Druze and Bedouin groups that killed at least 30 people.

The Israeli army claims the operations are to protect the Druze minority.

The resolution has also been published in the Official Gazette.

The motion described the attacks as yet another example of Tel Aviv's disregard for international law.

It said that Israel has once again revealed its lawlessness – this time in Syria – following its ongoing genocide in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories as well as recent attacks on Lebanon and Iran.

The motion emphasized that targeting Syria's capital marks a continuation of Israel's broader strategy to fuel regional conflict and undermine peace in the Middle East.

"Israel, in blatant violation of the U.N. Charter and the fundamental principles of international law, is not only openly breaching Syria's territorial integrity but also launching new acts of aggression to distract from the genocide it is perpetrating against the Palestinian people," the resolution said.

"These attacks are aimed at destabilizing Syria and the wider region. At this critical point, the international community's inexplicable silence and ineffectiveness only embolden Israel's reckless and unlawful behavior."

The motion warned that unless these assaults receive a firm and unified response from the international community, both regional and global peace, security and stability will continue to deteriorate.

"We fully support Syria's territorial integrity and sovereignty, and we vehemently oppose all actions that threaten the peace and well-being of our friend and brother, the Syrian nation," it declared.

The motion also noted that peace and stability in Syria are essential to broader regional security, warning that any deterioration would only serve the interests of figures like Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, "whose political survival depends on bloodshed and conflict."

The Parliament concluded by reiterating Türkiye's commitment to promoting peace, stability and security in the region and called once again on the international community to raise its voice against Israel's aggression.

It urged global actors to take "effective, consistent and resolute measures" in the face of escalating threats to international peace.

'Israeli attacks alarming'

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on the same day held a phone call with his Syrian counterpart, Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani, to discuss recent developments in the region, in the aftermath of Israeli strikes on Damascus.

According to Foreign Ministry sources, Fidan expressed concern over Israel’s recent airstrikes targeting southern Syria and Damascus, describing the attacks as alarming.

He emphasized that such interventions pose a threat to regional security and efforts to restore stability in Syria.

He also stressed the need for all relevant parties to work toward lasting peace in the country.

Fidan reiterated Türkiye’s call for an end to actions that jeopardize the normalization process and urged cooperation to ensure calm and stability across the region.

Similarly, the Turkish vice president and communications director also condemned Israel's attack.

"Israel's attacks on Syria constitute a clear threat not only to Syria's sovereignty but also to the stability and peace of our region. I strongly condemn these attacks," said Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz on X.

"The initiation of the reconstruction process in Syria, following years of internal turmoil, is of vital importance both for the oppressed Syrian people and for regional security," he said.

"In such a period, Israel's continuation of its aggressive stance is a clear act of sabotage of regional peace and international law," he added.

Communications Director Burhanettin Duran also said, "Attacks on Syria target not only Syria's stability and security but also the peace of our entire region."

"I condemn this attack that threatens Syria's sovereignty and unity," he said.

"Türkiye, as it has done so far, will continue to support Syria's territorial integrity in the future," he added.
