EU Minister Ömer Çelik slammed the EU's Turkey progress report on Wednesday and said that the findings are far from objective and within it there is a lack of objective criticism. The EU commission's Turkey progress report claims that there is backsliding on the rule of law and fundamental rights.
"We face criticism in progress reports, however, this year's report is far from being constructive and doesn't offer a way forwards," EU Minister Çelik said at a press conference on Wednesday in Ankara. '"There are sections in the report that are very far from being objective," Çelik added.
Underlining that the report doesn't represent the vision of the EU's founding fathers, Çelik refused to comment about the report's claims that Turkey uses excessive power in the fight against the PKK. "Turkey continues its fight against all terror organisations including the PKK and the Gulenist Terror Group (FETÖ) and the fight is done under the principles of the rule of law,'' he said.
