Gush Gallery is hosting Greek artist Manolis Anastasakos' solo exhibition entitled "Personhood II" until March 9. The artist's work is a reflection of a period when Greece came under the supervision of the IMF and the EU in 2010. It is also a mirror of the tension caused by the riotous atmosphere provoked by the media, and the exhibition documents reflections of this chaotic environment on human behaviors, their inner thoughts and emotions. "Personhood II" focuses on the echo of social unrest caused by the fear of hunger and economic recession. Manolis Anastasakos is a multi-disciplinary artist who produces works of painting, sculpture, photography and film in Athens. He also exhibited at the "No Country for Young Men" exhibition at BOZAR, one of Brussels's most important art centers. He had exhibited three solo shows previously, and now his works will be on display in Istanbul for the first time. In his latest exhibition, the artist intends to give a new form to intuitive feelings provoked by the signs of unrest all around him. By using objects and symbols that dominate the social realm as well as political life, Anastasakos exposes his viewers to their individuality and ego. Moreover, his exhibition stands as a metaphor for all of the financially-devastated countries all over the world.
