Even before Apple is set to unveil its much-anticipated update to its line-up of iPhones, the rumors started to fly, suggesting that the technology pioneer is now focusing on producing a thinner, stronger and waterproof iPhone 7.

One of the biggest rumors about the new iPhone 7 is that Apple is planning to remove the device's headphone jack and will instead allow headphones to connect either via a lightning port or Bluetooth in order to make the device thinner than ever.

A lightning port for the iPhone headphones has been speculated since 2012, so users may finally see the rumor come true.

Some reports also suggest that the company is currently negotiating with LG and Samsung, Apple's provider of screens, to make a switch from liquid crystal display (LCD) technology currently used on iPhones, to OLED, leaning on manufacturers such as LG Display.

The iPhone 7 release date is rumored to be in September or October next year, so the company has enough time to work on it.

Another change to the new iPhone is said to be waterproof technology rivals like Sony, Samsung and other smart phone giants already have waterproof products in the market, Apple simply cannot afford not having its new iPhone waterproofed.

The rumors say that the new iPhone 7 could be waterproofed to IP68 standards. Normally the available smartphones are waterproofed to IP67 standards that means they can resist water for up to 30 minutes and if submerged within a depth of 1 meter only.
