At least 30 people were injured when a commuter train derailed after colliding with a truck Tuesday northwest of Los Angeles, according to media reports.
Four cars of the train, operated by the Metrolink passenger rail, struck a tractor-trailer about 5:40 a.m. between the Southern California cities of Oxnard and Camarillo, the Los Angeles Times said.
Video footage showed train cars lying on their side at the scene, where emergency personnel were treating people on tarps on a road adjacent to the tracks.
The Ventura County Fire Department said the incident was being regarded as a "multi-casualty." The department told BBC that there had been no fatalities.
The train is said to have been carrying 51 passengers, and those injured were transported to nearby hospitals.
Three of the derailed cars were equipped with a "crash energy management" system, a mechanism absorbing the shock of a crash by dissipating kinetic energy during a collision, the LA Times said.
A fourth car, was a bicycle car, was not equipped with that system, it said.
In 2008, a Metrolink train collided with a freight train in the Chatsworth neighborhood in Southern California, killing 25 people and injuring 135 others.
