Three people were arrested just outside of New York City after police discovered multiple weapons in their car, which was just about to enter a tunnel to the city, local media reported Tuesday.

The suspects, two men and one woman, were taken into custody after multiple guns, several rounds of ammunition, knives and body armour were found in their car, which authorities stopped for a cracked windshield, NBC 4 New York reported citing law enforcement sources.

It is unclear what their motives were, however, law enforcement officials told the TV channel that the three suspects were "gun enthusiasts" with no suspected links to terrorism.

Authorities also found drugs in the car.
