Erwin Tumiri, a crew member who survived the plane crash which killed 76 people on Monday, has explained how he succeeded to survive the accident.

Tumiri was a staff member of the LaMia Airlines Flight 2933, transporting the Brazilian football team Chapecoense from Bolivia to Colombia, which crashed in Cerro Gordo, located near the La Union municipality of Colombia.

With three players, one journalist and another crew member, he is among the six people who survived the crash.

His survival is attributed to the fact that he followed safety protocols which are also explained to passengers at the beginning of the flight, as a routine procedure.

Tumiri reports that he followed safety protocols when most of the other passengers were in panic, rose from their seats, and were screaming.

''I put the bags in-between my legs and formed the fetal position advised during accidents,'' he said.

The accident rocked the football world; leading world soccer stars to offer their condolences one by one.

Many Brazilian teams offered Chapecoense to take their players on loan without charge.

Atletico Nacional, the Colombian side of the Copa Sudamericana, which Chapecoense was en route to play against, even suggested to crown the victim team with the championship title.
