Painter Gülden Artun is displaying her latest paintings at Tem Art Gallery in Nişantaşı until Dec. 24. Born in 1953 in Ankara, the artist graduated from Hacettepe University's Department of German Language and Literature in 1975 and left for Germany a year later. She began studying painting at the Berlin Academy of Fine Arts in 1977 and completed her education as a "Meisterschüler" -master student - in Marwan's studio in 1983. During her education, she was granted the Akademie der Künste encouragement award and earned a scholarship from the Senate of Cultural Affairs in Berlin in 1990. Artun's latest paintings feature new dimensions, new settings and the human phenomenon. The experiences of the artist become one with this phenomenon and take their place on canvas through poetic narration. The artist is inspired by the fertility of nature and as her thoughts, both real and fantasy, mingle with each other, her paintings become richer and cause an explosion of color, form and pattern. She paints children, women, men, plants, animals, naturalness and objectivity in motion. Her painting aims to celebrate the boundless continuity of nature. This particular exhibition of Artun features many paintings inspired by amusement parks. However, the paintings stand out with their atmosphere and numerous hidden details rather than the depiction of the setting. Artun studies the inertia of still life paintings and the dynamism of living nature. Those who will not have time to see the exhibition can visit www.temartgallery.com, the official web site of Tem Art Gallery, to browse Artun's exhibition, other gallery artists and past exhibitions.
