Celebrities show solidarity with people against coup attempt

Singers Demet Akalın, Işın Karaca, Özgün and poet İbrahim Sadi joined people protesting the failed coup attempt orchestrated by the Gülenist Terror Organization (FETÖ) in Kısıklı where President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's residence in Istanbul is located and supported the protest by addressing the people from the stage.

On stage, Akalın burst into tears and said: "I offer my condolences to the families of our martyrs. God rest their souls. However, I am very happy to be a part of the Turkish nation. We are so lucky to have a mighty, compassionate and courageous commander. May God bless him a thousand times."

Karaca stressed that the "democracy watch" will continue until "the end" and said: "We - the musicians - express our feelings by singing. However, we need to talk about what happened on July 15. This country will never be divided. We are against coups. May God bless our martyrs for protecting us. They are the real heroes. I am glad that we are part of Turkey. Enjoy the democracy watch."

Özgün said that when our country is in danger, the rest is irrelevant. "On July 15, Turkey was tested, and we continue to be tested. Terrible things happened. Civilians were killed, and Parliament was bombed. There are thousands of injured and hundreds of martyrs," he said. Özgün offered his condolences to the families of the martyrs and said: "May god rest their souls. Turkey has been though very dark days. However, we managed to see the light with unity and solidarity. These days will pass. I hope our nation will not suffer from these dark days again."

Sadri took the stage in front of the Istanbul Police Department on Vatan Avenue to protest the failed coup attempt and read a poem to the people on Vatan Avenue for the democracy watch.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency (AA) after leaving the stage, Sadri said that he is trying to participate in democracy watches as much as possible. He said that the spirit of the democracy watches continues just like the first day and said: "Turkey has been through a lot. Our nation passed the democracy exam and showed others how much we love our country. Thank god to all Turkish citizens. We unfortunately have martyrs and veterans in this democracy saga that will be remembered hundreds of years later. We our trying to mend our wounds with these democracy watches. God willing, we will see better days."

While Sadri was reading Arif Nihat Asya's poem "Dua" (Prayer), which is also one of the favorite poems of President Erdoğan, the people in the democracy watch accompanied him by saying "Amen" after every verse. Sadri who also read the Turkish national Anthem with the people that went to the democracy watch in Kısıklı.
