According to a statement from the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet (IDOB), "The Sleeping Beauty," which is designed by choreographer Victor Marius Alphonse Petipa and written by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and which provides the combination of all the different concepts of music and ballet together with characters and hard ballet steps, will be presented to spectators at Süreyya Opera House of Kadıköy Municipality on Sept. 30.

Ayşem Sunal Savaşkurt has brought "The Sleeping Beauty," which is a fertile example of a choreographer-composer collaboration, to the stage by remaining faithful to Petipa while simultaneously being affected by Rudolf Nureyev.

The ballet artists participated in the International Bodrum Ballet Festival and International Aspen

dos Opera and Ballet Festival with this work.

While the orchestra is conducted by Roberto Gianola, the decor designs are by Adnan Öngün. The costume designer is Çimen Somuncuoğlu, and the spotlight is by Önder Arık.

While Aurora Gizem A. Tuncay, Julia Hartmann, Deniz Kılınç and Melike Koper are in "Princess," Erhan Güzel, Melih Mertel, Olcay Tunçeli and Batur Büklü are in "Prince Florimund." On the other hand, "Carabosse" will be performed by İlke Kodal, M. Nuri Arkan, Ebru Cansız and Melike Koper, Julia Hartmann, Zeynep Serpen and Büşra Ay will play "Lilac Fairy."

Zorlu PSM, the new place

IDOB will stage plays at Zorlu Performing Art Center (PSM), where the request of a big hall for dancers and spectators will be satisfied, apart from Süreyya Opera House in this season.

IDOB's Zorlu PSM representation series starts with the staging of "The Sleeping Beauty" on Oct. 18 and Oct. 20. The work will also be presented at 8 p.m. Sept. 30 and Oct. 3-5 while it will be performed at 4 p.m. on Oct. 7 at Kadıköy Municipality's Süreyya Opera House.

New performances, new season

Other works to be presented by IDOB in the 2017-2018 ballet season are "The Nutcracker," "Don Quixote," "Judith" (premiere), "World Dance Day" and "Before the End- 3 Loves- 4 Seasons." Art lovers will be able to see "The Nutcracker" and "Don Quixote" at Zorlu PSM and at Süreyya Opera House.
