Turkish artists attend Venice International Performance Art Week

by Daily Sabah

Performİstanbul artists Batu Bozoğlu, Leman S. Darıcıoğlu and Ata Doğruel have been invited to the forth Venice International Performance Art Week to be held between Dec. 7 and 16.

Performance Art Week is an independent, nonprofit art project. Founded and curated by two artists, VestAndPage, the project is being held at Palazzo Mora and Palazzo Michie, Venice.

The event carefully selects its participants from a strict application process. The art week will enter a new phase with its Co-Creation Live Factory Prologue 1 program set to start this year. Based on the principles of joint production, collaboration and the creation of an artistic community, the program is designed to strengthen and develop the unique talent of each participating artist by introducing them to other specialists in a cooperative and productive environment.

The participating artists of Co-Creation Live Factory Prologue will be immersed in a busy program for 10 days and have the opportunity to work with Andrigo & Aliprandi from Italy, Marilyn Arsem from the U.S. and VestAndPage from Italy and Germany, respectively, in three groups.

To push the physical and mental limitations of his style and to concentrate on concepts like isolation and durability in his performances, Doğruel will work with Arsem, who focuses on the effects of time in relation to the artist and observer.

Scrutinizing the policies of participation and authorship while questioning the roles of artists and observers, Bozoğlu and Darıcıoğlu, who considers her performance a "possible-utopias map" of her dream world, will work with VestAndPage. The famous duo is known for their poetic and imaginative approaches to movement, as well as the physical and mental themes centered in their performances.

Productions at the end of the program will be performed at Palazzo Mora on Dec. 15 and 16. Various works, including individual performances and joint productions, will take place at the presentations, which are open to the public.

Performİstanbul

Bringing together performance artists and projects, the international performance art platform Performistanbul supports creative productions as well as work with artists and institutions in the international arena, while working to promote performance art to a wider audience.

Formed in Istanbul, Performistanbul conducts this flexible, creative model while collaborating with many art institutions worldwide. Ten performance artists living in Turkey, Istanbul, London and Amsterdam, and international artists from Germany, England, Italy and Persia who work on a project basis, all participate within the body of the platform.
