Five Afghan aid workers, who were abducted by the Taliban in southern Uruzgan province forty days ago, have been found dead, a provincial spokesperson said on Saturday.
Dost Mohammad Nayab said the dead bodies of the workers from "Save the Children" group were found in the province's Chanarto district.
"According to families of the workers, Taliban demanded the release of some jailed members in exchange for the workers," said Nayab.
But Taliban has made no official request, he added.
Taliban has yet to issue a statement about the incident.
Save the Children, an international non-governmental organization, carries out projects on education for children and tap water access in rural areas across Afghanistan.
