Automotive industry in Turkey leads all sectors with $1.6 billion exports

Turkey's exports dropped by 13 percent to $10.857 billion in July compared to the same month of last year, according to data disclosed by the Turkish Exporters' Assembly (TİM). Exports in the first seven months of the year decreased by 8.8 percent on the annual basis, falling to $84.3 billion from $92.5 billion in last year's January-July period. Exports in the past 12 months declined by 4.9 percent to $148.5 billion compared to the same period last year.
The automotive industry carried out $1.6 billion worth of exports in July, outperforming other sectors. It was followed by the ready-to-wear clothing sector with $1.4 billion worth of exports, while chemicals and chemical products ranked third with $1.3 billion. The industry group that carried out 82.4 percent of Turkey's total exports up to July exported $8.9 billion worth of goods with a decline of 15.1 percent on the annual basis. The agricultural sector, which constituted 14.1 percent of total exports in this period, sold $1.5 billion worth of exports, marking a 0.4 percent rise compared to July 2014. The mining group that has a share of 3.4 percent in total exports experienced a 7.4 percent drop in exports, falling to $374.418 million.
