Science, Industry and Technology Minister Fikri Işık said the models for the domestic automobile project will be introduced to the public this month. On top of the car models, Işık said additional work is being done on the range of expansion gear for SUV models, thus these models will be introduced in September. Stressing that there will be four types of domestic automobile models, Işık said once the models are public, a fleet of 30 to 40 will be test driven on all sorts of terrain before production begins.
Işık also discussed domestic cellphone production, claiming that rather than producing a cellphone from scratch, they are focusing on developing separate hardware and software projects. Işık added they are currently working on three hardware projects and five software projects, but suggested that the true difference maker in the industry is branding. Underlining that they are not aiming to produce all parts of the cellphones in Turkey, Işık said those could be outsourced as long as the branding is done well.
