Serkan Garip has created a shoe with a GPS system especially designed to help mentally disabled children. Garip’s creation has exploded economically as jealous spouses and bosses wanting to track their accountants are also now in demand of Garip Kundura's GPS product.
Turkey's entrepreneurial small and medium enterprises continue to add vitality to their respective sectors with their new inventions. One such company belongs to Serkan Garip, which for a quarter of a century has manufactured handmade shoes. Now, the first ever domestic producers of a shoe with an internal GPS (Global Positioning System) system, Garip Kundura has successfully created a whole new market.
The product was designed with the purpose of tracking mentally disabled children in mind, however demand seems to have sprung from all over the spectrum. From those who are afraid their expensive footwear may be stolen, to jealous spouses, for police operations and even by bosses wanting to track their accountants as they transport money, it appears everyone is interested in Garip's GPS shoes. DEMAND BY THE MILITARY Having worked in this area for three years now, Garip has created a number of customized products for customers. However, Garip has always upheld certain standards. Demands for products intended to be used for personal purposes are not taken into consideration. Therefore, the main target for these products consists of Alzheimer's patients, the elderly and children. Garip's work has also drawn the attention of a number of international mega-companies. Nike, for example, is currently in deliberations with Serkan Garip to produce a similar product in their Turkey branch. Meanwhile, plans are also in place directed towards providing the safety of soldiers serving in mountainous regions. A SPECIAL COMPOUND The system used has a GPS placed underneath the shoe. A special compound is used to place the GPS within the shoe, ensuring it does not incur damage. The GPS data is then transferred to a computer. Therefore, whoever wears the shoe can be tracked anywhere throughout the world.
