According the data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), based on the $2.15-a-day poverty line in current Purchased Power Parity (PPPs), the percentage of poor people in 2012 was 0.06 percent, remaining unchanged in 2013. Based on the $4.3-a-day poverty line in current PPPs, the percentage of poor people in 2013 was 2.06 percent, while it was 2.27 percent in 2012. Individuals who live in rural areas have a greater poverty risk than those who live in urban areas. Based on the $2.15-a-day poverty line in current PPPs, the percentage of poor in urban areas in 2012 was 0.02 percent, unchanging in 2013, where the percentage of poor in rural areas in 2012 was 0.14 percent and 0.13 percent in 2013. Based on the $4.3-a-day poverty line in current PPPs, the percentage of poor people in urban areas in 2013 was 0.64 percent, while in 2012 it was 0.60 percent. Based on the $4.3-a-day poverty line in current PPPs, the percentage of poor in rural areas in 2012 was 5.88 percent but 5.13 percent in 2013. The hunger threshold for a family of four is TL 1,225, and the poverty threshold for a family of four is TL 3,999.
