The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Bursa (BTSO) has taken 140 companies that are not currently engaged in any export activities to the Heimtextil Fair in Frankfurt by private plane in order to provide more opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) to become exporters. The Heimtexil Fair, which is one of the world's leading home textile fairs, welcomed 157 Turkish firms this year and the BTSO initiated an interesting practice as part of its Global Fair Agenda Project. The 140 firms that attended the fair with the BTSO have never opened stands in any international fairs before, and the chamber aims for these companies to be involved in exporting activities to gain more experience in international fairs. The BTSO also aims to continue this practice at 58 other international fairs and will send approximately 3,000 businessmen on three private planes. The BTSO chairman, İbrahim Burkay, said that the Heimtextil Fair is the biggest in the industry, and since Turkey is one of the leading producers of home textiles, participation in such events is essential. "Our share in the middle and upper segments is around 5 percent in the world, and we are the number one country in Europe. Our exports to Germany are the highest, reaching approximately $600 million, followed by Russia and the U.S. According to our targets for 2023, we have to maintain our market share and also enter new markets. Therefore, this fair is crucial for the Turkish home textile industry," Burkay said.
