Istanbul's Atatürk and Sabiha Gökçen international airports achieved the highest increase in the number of passengers in their groups in Europe while Trabzon Airport ranked fifth in its category. According to Airports Council International's (ACI) traffic report for July 2015, Istanbul's Atatürk and Sabiha Gökçen airports achieved the highest increase in the number of passengers in their groups, while Ankara Esenboğa Airport and Trabzon Airport ranked fifth in terms of the increase in passenger traffic in the Group 4 category.
Airports that welcomed more than 25 million passengers per year, which are compiled under Group 1, achieved 5.7 percent growth on average. Atatürk International Airport achieved the largest passenger traffic growth of 16.9 percent in this category, which was followed by Madrid Barajas International Airport, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Frankfurt Airport and London's Gatwick Airport with 13.1 percent, 8.4 percent, 6.6 percent and 6.4 percent, respectively.
Airports accommodating between 10 million and 25 million passengers per year, which are compiled under Group 2, grew 8.4 percent on average. Sabiha Gökçen Airport achieved the largest growth of 28.5 percent in this category, followed by Ankara's Esenboğa Airport, Athens International Airport, Tel Aviv Ben Gurion International Airport and Dublin Airport with 25.7 percent, 20.6 percent, 18.9 percent and 16.9 percent, respectively. Trabzon Airport achieved a passenger growth rate of 39.5 percent and ranked fifth among the airports that welcomed less than 5 million passengers per year in Group 4. This is the first time that Trabzon ranked among the 209 airports securing the largest increase.
