Television division of Japanese electronics conglomerate Sony acquired majority shares of four television channels in Turkey.
According to Turkish daily Hürriyet, Sony Pictures Television (SPT) bought the majority shares of Planet channels in broadcast throughout the country and included in major pay-TV platforms. Planet channels include theme channels for soap operas, Turkish movies, cooking and the children.
Lyle Stewart, senior vice president of SPT Networks' Central & Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa operation, stated that they have been looking for the right partnership to enter the Turkish market. He added that they aim to bring reputable international channels to Planet TV and increase its portfolio.
Current partnering firm Satış Ofisi will continue to handle the marketing and sales operations of the channels.
