Türkiye's natural gas imports dropped notably on an annual basis in July, while oil purchases edged up, according to data sourced from the country's energy watchdog.
Natural gas imports decreased 21.7% year-over-year in July to around 3.06 billion cubic meters (bcm), according to data from the country's Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK).
Pipeline gas accounted for 2.87 billion cubic meters of total imports, while liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports stood at 194.05 million cubic meters. Pipeline gas imports fell 21.04% from a year earlier, while LNG imports declined 30.48%.
Azerbaijan was Türkiye's largest pipeline gas supplier in July with over 1 billion cubic meters, followed by Russia with 948.49 million cubic meters and Iran with 919.33 million cubic meters.
Türkiye imported all of its LNG in July from Algeria, totaling 194.05 million cubic meters.
Türkiye's natural gas consumption, meanwhile, also declined 25.2% year-over-year to around 2.65 billion cubic meters in July.
Industrial consumption totaled 1.11 billion cubic meters, while the transformation and conversion sector, including power generation, consumed 770.21 million cubic meters. Residential consumption reached 376.46 million cubic meters.
The country's natural gas stocks stood at 5.64 billion cubic meters at the end of July, up 30.54% from the same month last year.
Of the total, 5.41 billion cubic meters were held in underground storage facilities and 224.79 million cubic meters at LNG terminals.
The data also showed that Türkiye imported some 4.52 million tons of crude oil and petroleum products in July, down 6.9% from a year earlier.
Crude oil, the largest component of Türkiye's total oil imports, reached 2.93 million tons in July, up 0.32% from the same month last year. Diesel imports totaled 1.15 million tons.
Russia was Türkiye's largest supplier of crude oil and petroleum products during the month with 1.66 million tons, followed by Iraq with 653,543 tons and Kazakhstan with 507,965 tons.
Russia accounted for 36.69% of Türkiye's total oil imports in July, while Iraq and Kazakhstan represented 14.46% and 11.24%, respectively.
At the same time, Türkiye's LPG imports fell by 4.6% in July compared to the same month last year, totaling 302,830 metric tons.
