Luc Besson's latest film, "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets," was screened at İKSV Galas, which are held by the Istanbul Foundation of Culture and Arts (IKSV), on Monday night at 9.30 p.m. at Cinemaximum City's Nişantaşı.
"Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets," follows Valerian and Laureline, two special agents who fight against dark forces threatening Alpha, the galaxy metropolis, by crossing both time and space. They receive a mission and set off for Alpha, which hosts several different species. The public of Alpha has tried hard to improve their planet, however, dark forces are about to put them in danger.
The film was directed by Luc Besson, one of the most prominent figures of science fiction and space opera. Twenty years after "The Fifth Element," Luc Besson decided to return to cinema and direct "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets," which is quickly becoming a cult classic, by bringing a science fiction universe together with a brilliant cast.
Written, produced and directed by Luc Besson, the film stars Dane DeHaan as Valerian, Cara Delevingne as Laureline, Clive Owen as Commander Arün Filitt and Ethan Hawke, Herbie Hancock and Rihanna in other roles. The film's soundtrack is composed by Alexandre Desplat.
The film was adapted to film from "Valerian et Laureline," France's most popular science fiction comic series written by Pierre Christin. The series has been accepted as a milestone in comic book culture and has deeply affected space opera as well as time travel and classic hero stories. Having designed many of The Fifth Element's conceptual drawings, Jean-Claude Mezieres is also the illustrator of the series.
"Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" debuts today throughout Turkey.
